Vegans Having a Dry Skin in Winter
A few weeks ago I realized that my skin was very dry. I haven’t had this problem before, so it probably has to do with my vegan diet. I searched for information on this and there seem to be more vegans who have a dry skin when the weather is cold. The skin becomes dry, because vegan nutrition contains less fat and less vitamin A than a regular diet.
There are a few solutions to prevent your skin from becoming dry:
- Eat food that contains vitamin A, for example carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, green leafy vegetables and fruit.
- Take a spoon of flax seed oil every day to make sure you get enough fat. It contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids. You can’t heat flax seed, so only have it with cold meals or drinks like soya milkshakes, soya yoghurt and salads.
- Moisturize your skin, especially your hands and lips. Use vegan lip balm, hand cream and body lotion.
Good luck and let’s hope the temperatures will get better soon.

I’ve always had dry skin…But now that i’ve been vegan for almost 3 years my ski has really gotten drier, hands and feet specially. A curious thing is that my right hand gets drier than my left, also I hate dealing with cracked dry bleeding knuckles.Even though I think I drink lots of water, eat enough amount of vegetables that contain vitamin A and I eat 1 or two fruits every day as shakes, juices, salads or just the plain fruit…Also I drinks lots of soy milk…Basically I personally think I lead a healthy diet, still I think I’ll have to go see a dermatologist or just change the current soap and lotion I’m using. Thanks for the tips ^^
